Today I actually made moves for my health and wellness journey and I wanted to share what I did. First of all, a little recap on my “whys” for this focus in my life. While I’ve been on diets forever, I had never really focused on my physical, mental, and spiritual wellness on the whole. After a recent ankle/foot surgery, I was really surprised to find out how much my endurance and strength slipped during the 8 weeks that I was non or partial weight bearing. It was a wake up call. Despite the acknowledgement that changes needed to be made, getting my butt in gear to do them has been another story entirely. Today, though, I put my doubt and excuses aside and actually did a couple of workouts.
Because my foot/ankle is still not the most stable after surgery, I didn’t want to do any cardio workout that would compromise my progress in that area. So, I searched YouTube and found this: https://www.youtube.com/live/mLlhqHGVwN8?si=AlPykYy3dEKy4xvj
I really liked this workout. I will be doing this again and I will likely look into other workouts from her, as well. The workout was only about 15 minutes long and it was challenging without being too difficult. Also, the calm vibe of this instructor was nice. Sometimes instructors are too high energy for me. I don’t know about you, but when I’m a sweaty, hyperventilating mess during a workout, the last thing I want is Susie Spandex telling me that I “got this” or “beach body here we come” without even sounding the slightest bit winded. If I’m rolling my eyes at the over the top enthusiasm of the instructor I’m not likely to come back. This video, though, was nice and chill.
After that, I found a seated stretch video: https://youtu.be/n0sCHcQK4_0?si=7bBtPbV0Q60OCRuf. Being completely honest, I probably won’t do this one again. I really need to stretch my body, especially my back and I found that this video moved too fast in some sections and too slowly in others. With that said, it was effective in giving me a full-body stretch in about 10 minutes from chair level. Also, the stretches weren’t complicated, which I appreciated. Overall, though, it just wasn’t my jam.
I have also moved back to my favorite food tracker, Healthi. I was trying Omo for a few weeks and while it’s a nice app, I still prefer Healthi. Also, the information on Omo was not as unique as I was hoping it would be. The lessons basically feel like being back in a Weight Watchers class. So, while it promised information and programming geared toward me, the lessons are pretty generic. If you are just starting out in this arena, you might appreciate all of the information. If you’ve been actively trying to diet for most of your life, you’ve likely heard it all before.
Just in case you’re wondering, I am not affiliated with any of these instructors, apps, or organizations. They’re just the honest-to-goodness things that I used today to get started (again) on developing a stronger body, mind, and spirit. If you give any of these things a try, I’d love to hear your thoughts! I firmly believe that by sharing our stories, we can truly help each other. In the meantime, I wish you health and happiness!
